A day in the life of a cook who has a new stove? There’s nothing like it.
It’s Christmas and birthday and Fourth of July fireworks all rolled into one.
I had zero interest in kitchens and appliances until I discovered real food in my thirties. Cooking in culinary school ignited my passion for sleek stainless steel, multiple gas burners, the even cooking of convection fans and grill flames.
I was lucky enough to outfit the kitchen in our Ann Arbor house with new appliances. I could cook with my own gas stove in my very own kitchen. That stove was a thing of beauty.
Then our years of moving and moving arrived and electric stoves were the only choice. At first I was a bit like this guy
but I adjusted and life went on.
Settling in Florida for now, the option for a gas stove is easy. There is no option. The ground isn’t conducive for burying gas lines; I just read that only eight percent of Floridians have gas stoves.
Our little condo is twenty years old. We bought it from an older woman who didn’t make any updates to it so it needs a little love. We’ve slowly started to improve the place and the kitchen is our first stop on the DIY Express.
As G said, it was time to have a stove that’s from the twenty-first century.
I’ve spent the last couple of weeks getting to know my new stove. It’s so fancy I feel like I should wear a dress and pearls when I use it.
Here’s the old stove on its way out the door and the brand spanking new one.
I’ve roasted, blanched, sautéed, broiled, and seared.
I tried the baked risotto recipe from Ina Garten
and used the air fryer function to make arancini from the leftovers.
When I saw the recipe for a “quick” focaccia recipe from the Red Truck Bakery Cookbook, I had to try it.
And then I had to make a skillet pasta with red sauce for dipping. You understand.
I’ll be in my apron again all week trying even more recipes to see what this stove can do! You know what they say, it’s a tough job…
Thank you for taking the time to read my work. I care about you. Please don’t forget to eat your greens.
