I love reading your food related memories Kim. We definitely have a social strata of grocery stores or supermarkets as we call them here. I love a browse around a grocery store when I'm travelling. An insight into all the exotic treasures we might not have in the UK

Wow, your piece brought back so many memories of my own experiences grocery shopping as a kid, right down to the coupon organizer! I remember being so excited to help cut out coupons from the newspaper and put them into their designated slots. I think my first experience of a truly fancy grocery store wasn’t until I got to college, when I went to my first Harris Teeter. I’m usually a no-nonsense grocery shopper, but I love taking my time at nicer grocery stores. The best is going during off hours when you have plenty of time (and space) to browse!

As someone who’s in the grocery store (a fancy Publix 😉) at least 50 times a week, you’ve made me rethink my “strolls”….aka #dayjob

I should take more time to see all these wonders through your lens!

Great piece, Kim!

Ah,the fancy grocery store! We had one near the townhouse we lived in when the kids were really young. It was right next door to a PetSmart so one of my favourite no-cost outings was to walk across the road to the grocery store where my daughter loved to look at all of the fancy cakes and treats and my son loved the live fish and lobsters in the tanks. Then it was next door to look at the hamsters and budgies. Good times. :D To this day, we have a great reverence for the fancy grocery store.

Great piece! Grocery shops are so fascinating. I love noticing how differ from one another, and when traveling, going for supermarket expeditions is a must. I'm afraid I'm a bit like your dad though, I could spend hours reading all the labels and inspecting each shelf, item by item.
