BBQs with every meat and vegetable and even eggs - that is how we do it in Australia. Every meal, every ingredient, on the BBQ, all summer long :)

Thank you for another wonderful substack!

Caprese Salad! Or on French bread…my summer goal!

Was excited to have more than 5 strawberries picked from our own garden that survived the wild animals and insects this year. 3 handfuls!

Otherwise my green thumb is still in process…hoping this year 🤞

I’m a terrible gardener! My dad was in charge of our garden when I was growing up and he still has a knack for it but I inherited my mom’s black thumb 😂 A friend gave us tomato plants this year and so far they’re still alive, though (but to be honest it’s been all David- I haven’t touched them out of fear haha)

Re: kohlrabi, I tried it for the first time last year as a replacement for lettuce in a Caesar salad and was a fan! I’d be interested in trying other recipes, too, though. Apparently it’s also good roasted. What did your mom do with her kohlrabi?

I love the idea of a summer list.

We have a small greenhouse (hot house??) this year, for the first time ever. I am hopeful of an abundance of tomatoes...... we shall see!

At my father in laws gorgeous garden yesterday we picked plump english strawberries bursting with flavour..... hard to beat!

I need to write down a list... time just flies bye and I fear it'll be already October when I finally make that pine nut ice-cream I dream about every day 😭

Don't ask me about my garden unless you have a couple of hours to spare...:).

I LOVE summer food...i love walking out the back door to pick greens for my salads and strawberries for my oatmeal (then blackberries and raspberries respectively). I ONLY eat tomatoes in summer (do NOT insult me with an out-of-season tomato) and always have plenty to put away for the winter. This year i'm growing pickling cucumbers -- they're my 'just-for-kicks-and-giggles' crop this year (just to see how we get on) -- and am low-key excited at the prospect of making my own dill pickles.....and there I go...rabbiting on about my garden.......xo
