Thanks for teaching me the meaning of estivation! It’s something that’s highly necessary during summers in Spain!
I loved reading about your 4th of July memories. I’m pretty sure a flag cake graced our cookout table at least a couple of years in my childhood! I’ve actually never heard of freezer pickles! What are they?
Awesome!! Thanks so much! I hated pickles up until about a year ago (shocking, I know! 😂) but now I love them. I’m definitely going to give this a try!
You captured the simple pleasures of summer so well and I learned a new word. I hope to stock my freezer soon with icy treats. So fun! And in Texas, we definitely estivate? If I remembered that right. Lol.
I've made this recipe a lot over the years and has always been a crowd pleaser... it's festive, light, delicious, & healthy bc there's in fruit in it of course! ;-P
Oh, I love the word estivate and the state of it…I’d never heard that word before. Loved reading your recollections, Kim. One thing I remember my grandpap always having were the banana popsicles with two sticks that you could crack in half and share. I always loved when he split them with me! And I still remember shuttering when he would bite them with his false teeth! :)
You look just like your mom! Beautiful! I love chocolate ice cream! I worked at Carry-out Foods and scooped ice cream for years. I never wanted anyone to feel jipped. I was very generous. Those look like some of my handiwork.
What fun memories you have! So maybe it wasn’t summer vacations, but I think they are so interesting. Stay cool my friend. Love reading about you!

I found an example recipe for freezer pickles: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/easy-freezer-pickles/
My mom would make them and store them in Ziploc freezer bags.

Thank you! And yes...in TX you must estivate as well! LOL
We do! And my family always eats raw onions with our meals. My mom loves green onions. I prefer the sweet ones sliced thin with plenty of salt.
Great minds think alike! I also made a similar cake for the 4th,
& used the same flag design on mine (although, I forgot to take a pic of mine)... https://cakescottage.com/2016/05/11/no-bake-summer-berry-icebox-cake/

Love the pic of you and your mom <3
Oooh...layers!
PS- While we don't estivate in upstate NY, I LOVE this word and will also be finding ways to use it! Thanks for the vocab lesson! :)
Sun tea! I think we must have had that same jug :) and that word, estevate, it's like the hygge of summer!
Great picture. I know how much you miss her.

Great read, Kim!
Ha! Thank you! That photo was taken at Royal Scoop. :)
Estivation!! Oh. My. Goodness. That's a fabulous word. I'm definitely estivating....
I totally dip green onions in a little pile of salt...learned that from my mum....they do tend to linger nowadays, though....:D
Cool Whip. Well. That's something I could never get behind. xo
I've never known anyone else who did that with green onions.
Oh, and I should've noted...I am also anti-Cool Whip. I used fresh whipped cream. There's noting like it.
