I loved seeing the recipes from your Mom's three-ring binders! And the idea of project cooking is a great way to look at trying something new that may take a bit more work than a recipe you're used to. Almost like something you wouldn't necessarily make for a meal, but in the in-between times, just in case it doesn't turn out as planned!
A wonderful read, Kim! Wish I could pop over for some of that delicious food! By the way, I had the same Mikasa place settings from when I got married. 🤣🤣🥰
Fun memories! I don't recall any Asian food until I was in high school and China Chef opened near Drug Mart - it's still there!! My grandmother made a version of chop suey that I loved and thought was so exotic. LOL!! I don't even know why that was in her rotation of mostly Hungarian/Slovak delicious meals. While we might not have had so much experience with Asian food growing up, I think you and I have made up for lost time with all of the Asian food we've eaten in our exploring over the years as well as recipe testing! A memory popped up in my feed the other day for when we made pad Thai noodles together, and I'm like - "those were delicious, why don't I ever make them?" One of my favorite memories is still eating at Thai Thai in San Francisco! I LOVE larb now! I didn't plan anything "on purpose" for the Chinese New Year, but I guess it affected my thoughts because I have 3 Asian meals planned for this week, ha! Two things I'm asked to try making are sushi and pho, and I refuse because I really enjoy the experience of eating these out, so I will never learn to make them. I can, however, make some good GF gyoza!! Been craving those, so that might need to be a project next weekend!
